Sybaritic Retreats
Members

Launched in the early part of the destination club industry, Sybaritic Retreats failed to capture any of the early attention the sector saw, namely because it appears that the club was never fully conceptualized.

The club would exist solely as a skeletal website for years with only one page: a rotating list of definitions of sybaritic, punctuated by the club's logo.

No press releases were ever published and the only media coverage the club received was a brief mention in the New York Times making mention of the club's "inspirational" name alongside larger clubs such as Exclusive Resorts, Dream Catcher, and Private Escapes.

While each of these clubs went on to become strong players in the sector, Sybaritic Retreats appears to have never attempted to progress past their concept phase. The club's website went unchanged for years before finally being removed late in 2009.

According to domain records, the website was owned by Ken Simms, a hospitality and travel executive with affiliations to several travel clubs. While not confirmed, Sybaritic Retreats may have been planned to serve as a lead source for other ventures or simply failed to generate any initial interest and sat on the back burner until the economic downturn that claimed the lives of many destination clubs, leading to the decision to close down the site.

As can be assumed, Sybaritic Retreats had no members.
