Known only for receiving attention for their aspirational name in the New York Times, Sybaritic Retreats was compared to Dream Catcher, Exclusive Resorts, and Private Escapes.

While each of the three clubs mentioned alongside Sybaritic went on to become major players in the destination club industry, the small Sybaritic Retreats never emerged.

The club's website simply circled definitions of the word and conjugations of "sybaris." The club would defined themselves as "The World's Most Exclusive Luxury Residences."

After years of operating with no content on the site outside of the introduction, late in 2009, the site was finally removed, apparently ending the Sybaritic Retreats' chapter in the history of the destination club sector.

No information was ever disclosed regarding how the club was structured, including information about the Sybaritic Retreats' annual dues pricing.
