Ski Destinations
Founded by Jamie Astle, the man behind Fly Fishing Destinations, Ski Destinations maintained the niche focus of Fly Fishing Destinations but instead targeted the affluent luxury ski audience.
Using a model virtually identical to Fly Fishing Destinations, Ski Destinations' model differed slightly from the more traditional destination club model. Leading clubs like Exclusive Resorts and Ultimate Escapes charge a one time, refundable membership deposit to join the club and annual dues to access the club's properties each year. When the member elects to resign their membership, they receive a portion of their membership deposit back. Ski Destinations' members paid an up front fee to join that entitled them to a five year club membership. Members did not pay annual dues, but rather the membership fee was used by the club to acquire real estate and nothing was owed to the member once the membership concluded. Essentially, the membership fee was a five year pre-paid travel program.
With humble aspirations, the club sought only 90 total members and five properties. Members would each receive two weeks of annual travel, one during ski season and one non-peak time.
According to the club's still active website, Ski Destinations targeted an initial ten members to put down a fully refundable $5,000 good faith deposit. Based out of Sandy, Utah, the club planned to acquire their first property in either Alta or Park City. As the club does not own any properties, it appears that Ski Destinations was unable to secure the initial memberships needed.
