Simplicity International
If you listen to enough destination club executives, you will inevitably hear a story all too common across the industry. After having problems with the size, location, costs, and quality of services on a vacation, they think that there must be a better way. Twenty five years ago, Jeffrey Tallman and his wife were traveling with their children off to New Hampshire and were captivated by the area and began searching for a second home. Realizing that a second home would not work well with the family's desire to travel to multiple locations and subsequently would not justify the costs and hassles of owning, the family elected not to buy, but the seed had been planted.
In 2003, Tallman began the concept sketch of Simplicity International and launched the club in January of 2005. A month prior, Simplicity International appointed John Schopfer as President and COO of the club and the complicated history of Simplicity International was put into motion.
Schopfer's experience in resort real estate ownership included vacation clubs, timeshares, and private residence clubs positioned him well to help launch the upstart club. Simplicity would offer unlimited travel, access to over 1,000 select hotels across the world, regional real estate acquisitions, and financing through the club as just a few of their member benefits. Just months after the launch, the club was approached by a company who quickly "snapped up" the club according to Schopfer. Soonthereafter, the acquiring company abandoned the concept and suspended the club.
Nearly a year and a half after the club's launch, Schopfer reacquired Simplicity International and transitioned the club from a destination club to a resort real estate development company.
