A&K Residence Club Announces First Annual Meeting
Date: February 26, 2009
Equity-based club will release financial report and elect board members at April meeting
Abercrombie & Kent Residence Club, an equity destination club launched in September 2008 by the acclaimed travel services company, today announced plans for its first annual meeting to be held in Chicago on April 28 where the company will release to its members the club's annual financial report and board members will be elected.
Since launching the club, A&K Residence Club management has maintained a position of financial transparency, regularly communicating with members regarding the club's fiscal strength, property growth and position in the marketplace as the global economy shifted. The annual meeting exemplifies the dedication the company has to openly communicating timely information, including current financial figures and future growth, to its members.
"Our company works on behalf of the members, who own the club under our equity model, to maintain the club's financial integrity," said Geoffrey Kent, founder, chairman and chief executive officer of the Abercrombie & Kent Group of Companies. "From the beginning, we established a promise to be forthright about how the club is operating financially and have the members play an active role in the club's future. Our annual meeting demonstrates our commitment to that promise."
Consistent with the club's by-laws, board members will be elected at the annual meeting, including two seats to be filled by members. Nominations and elections will take place at the meeting, resulting in a fivemember board that will oversee the club's management with A&K and provide direction for the club's longterm future.
"I look forward to having direct input from our membership base through the elected board members," said Kent. "Combined with frequent member communication allowing for all questions to be answered, the transparency our company delivers provides peace of mind for our members so they can be assured their membership contribution is protected and they can enjoy the many benefits of A&K Residence Club membership."
A&K Residence Club is the largest equity-based club in the destination club industry. Unlike non-equity clubs, A&K Residence Club members own the club and have direct input into how club resources are used. All the residences are owned debtfree. A&K manages the club on the members' behalf.
The A&K Residence Club annual meeting, open to current A&K Residence Cub members, will be held at The Peninsula Hotel in downtown Chicago, providing a central location convenient for members to attend if they choose. The management team originally planned to host the meeting at the club's newest flagship property in Turks and Caicos, but altered that plan to allow for greater member attendance.
"While I know all our members are eager to see our newest property in Turks and Caicos, we moved the meeting to Chicago so that more of them could attend," explained Kent. "In today's economy, our members have questions about the industry's future and we wanted to make it easy for them to attend. We are expecting a full house."
In addition to the business purpose of the annual meeting, members will enjoy exclusive "insider access" activities arranged by the A&K Residence Club team dedicated to discovering and arranging these oneofkind experiences at all properties. Details of these unique activities are currently being arranged and will be finalized based on projected attendance at the annual meeting.
