Once one of the fastest growing clubs in the industry and a prominent leader in the Destination Club Association, High Country Club managed to acquire 375 members as the sector's leading entry level club.

With razor thin margins an integral cog in the High Country Club machine, when the club began to purchase real estate out of their price range, increased executive salaries, and never charged sufficient annual dues to cover ever increasing costs, the fate of the club was set in motion. When the financial and real estate markets began their decline, not only did interest in the destination club market drop drastically, but the club found it nearly impossible to obtain credit.

After several attempts to restructure their club, High Country Club would ultimately file for bankruptcy early in 2009.

With the club in bankruptcy, many destination clubs new and old would pursue the former members, including Ultimate Escapes and Distinctive Holiday Homes. Paragon Destinations would launch, created by former members of the club and The Phoenix Club would emerge in August of 2009, created by a group of creditors and members looking to reconstitute the club.

"My clients believe that their investment (as well as yours) will be lost, if the bankruptcy of HCC continues on its normal course, and no steps are taken to reorganize and reconstitute the Club," wrote Thomas Quinn, a lawyer representing The Phoenix Club. "My clients have pledged a substantial sum of money to attempt to bring the Club out of bankruptcy and assume much of the property debt. But before going forward with those efforts, my clients need to know if the existing members of HCC would want to participate as members in the reconstituted Club."

The club has yet to create a website, literature, or marketing materials and exists solely as an idea and an LLC.
