Combining elements of private jet cards with the destination club model, One Key World did not own the properties available to members, but allowed access through an extensive partnership network.

"One Key is the next generation destination club," said Jay Sapovits, the club's Founder and Chief Executive Officer. "We wanted to offer a simple and flexible solution that allowed travelers to make the most use of their membership, without the considerable upfront capital or long-term commitment."

Instead of charging a refundable membership deposit like virtually all other destination clubs, One Key World members paid a non-refundable fee in exchange for a pre-paid travel card. As a member traveled to a club property, nights would be debited from the card. Members could continue to travel until their pre-paid nights reached zero, at which point they could either renew their membership and purchase more nights to add to their card or simply stop traveling with the club. "Because there are no long-term commitments, we know we have only one opportunity to deliver an unforgettable vacation experience," continued Sapovits.

Officially launched in 2007, One Key World owes a portion of their creation to Exclusive Resorts, the world's largest destination club. Sapovits served with Marquis Jet, who had just partnered with the club. Following the partnership between Exclusive Resorts and Marquis Jet, Sapovits splintered off to combine his experience with Marquis Jet with the fast growing destination club model. By late 2008, One Key had reached their 100th reservation, but the economic malaise of 2008 forced the club to cease operations in early 2009.

Blurring the lines between several different luxury travel options, One Key World is most often enveloped in the destination club family. As a new club model, the young club did help differentiate themselves from other structures used throughout the industry, including the standard destination club model and luxury rentals.
