The Odyssey Club, a private destination travel club had high hopes for their young venture with a seasoned cast of executives at the helm, including John Pritzker, Thomas Gottlieb, and Andrew Harper, the Editor and Publisher of Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report.
Working through much of 2003 designing the structure, the club would officially launch in January of 2004, offering members unlimited annual travel to a global collection of luxury vacation properties.
While The Odyssey Club continued to work towards their launch, another young destination club was working on their own growth. Exclusive Resorts, now the largest destination club in the world, had just 20 members when they were contacted by AOL Founder and former CEO Steve Case, looking to learn more about the club concept. Within days, Case and Exclusive Resorts were meeting to not only discuss membership, but investment opportunities.
The injection of the Case name and capital sent the club to new heights. Through much of 2003, Exclusive Resorts acquired new properties at an unparalleled pace to meet the occupancy demands of new members.
As 2004 approached, Exclusive Resorts announced that they had acquired not only The Odyssey Club, but another young club called Mirabella Estates. The press release announcement led with "Exclusive Resorts, LLC., the pioneer and global leader in the luxury residence club industry, has acquired the two remaining companies in the sector, The Odyssey Club, LLC., and Mirabella Estates, LP."
Not only did the club add new properties to their portfolio, but executives from both of the acquired clubs came on board to help Exclusive Resorts grow to the dominant player they are today.
The small group of Odyssey Club members who had joined prior to the launch were "given the option of converting their Odyssey Club membership reservations into Exclusive Resorts memberships on an extremely favorable basis or having their membership reservation fees refunded."
As the club never officially launched, the only press release coming from the club pertains to the acquisition by Exclusive Resorts.

Exclusive Resorts has acquired the assets of The Odyssey Club and Mirabella Estates, two young travel membership clubs competing against the fast emerging Exclusive Resorts. The acquisitions have been called an "exponential" benefit to all parties involved.
