The Odyssey Club Documents
Created in 2003 with a planned launch date in January of 2004, The Odyssey Club would be one of the first true clubs in the young destination club industry, trailing only Private Retreats, Exclusive Resorts, and Portofino.
Led by the trio of John Pritzker, Thomas Gottlieb, and Andrew Harper, The Odyssey Club planned to introduce themselves publicly to the market on January 5, 2004. As the young club approached their targeted launch date, they would be acquired by Exclusive Resorts, a rival destination club that had just recently sold 50% ownership to AOL Co-Founder and former CEO Steve Case.
In December of 2003, Exclusive Resorts would announce the acquisition of The Odyssey Club along with Mirabella Estates, another young membership club.
Through the acquisitions, Exclusive Resorts would add members, properties, marketing data, customer service programs, and executives from the clubs to further their leadership team.
"What John Pritzker, Andrew Harper and I have founded and started, will be able to reach its ultimate potential under the auspices of Exclusive Resorts," said Gottlieb. "Brad Handler and Brent Handler are dynamic entrepreneurs who pioneered the luxury residence club industry and made it both feasible and viable by developing a proprietary usage paradigm. Their portfolio of residences is the finest in the world and they provide a member experience that is incomparable. I look forward to serving on the Company's Board of Directors and to contributing to the success of Exclusive Resorts."
Soonthereafter, Exclusive Resorts would establish themselves as the leading destination club in the world, a title they hold today with well over 3,000 members and $1 billion in real estate.
As The Odyssey Club never officially launched, no documents pertaining to the club are available. If you are a former member of the club and would like to provide any additional insight into the club, please feel free to contact us at contribute@destinationclubnews.com.
