The Markers Club Africa Poised To Launch
By: Destination Club News Date: May 21, 2010
The Markers Club, a destination club centered primarily on giving members access to premiere golf destinations around the globe, is doing just that with the creation of The Markers Club Africa, a new subsidiary based out of South Africa.
"The Markers Club International is proud to announce the preliminary launch of our Markers Club Africa division which is bound to be a favorite destination amongst our club members," the club writes. "Our planned investment into Southern Africa encompasses some of the finest destinations and quality resorts in the world."
We had the opportunity to speak with The Markers Club CEO Michael Broussard earlier today to learn more about this new club. "Our launch in South Africa is a stepping stone to everything else we are planning with The Markers," he began. "Ultimately, we plan on introducing similar clubs in Europe, Asia, Canada, and Mexico amongst others and expand our worldwide presence."
"Not only will we be courting members throughout Africa, but we believe our core group of US members will also be interested in visiting our residences in South Africa. In addition to the acclaimed golf, they will be able to safari in the region and go on photography expeditions. Likewise, members of The Markers Club Africa will find our properties in Scottsdale, Las Vegas, and others just as appetizing."
Targeting roughly a 50% occupancy rate, The Markers Club Africa currently has six residences in line as well as additional affiliate locations. Like their father company, The Markers Club Africa will offer three different membership options. Individual/Family and Corporate Memberships provide members 30 nights of club usage over the course of a year, requiring only an Annual Membership Fee of between $25,000 and $30,000. This structure is unlike the majority of other destination clubs who typically charge a large up-front deposit and annual dues to members. The club also has a "Legacy Membership" available for a one-time membership fee of $500,000 that gives members a lifetime membership with unlimited annual travel benefits.
New to The Markers Club family, various other clubs have seen the attraction of South Africa in recent years. Late in 2009, The Hideaways Club released two new properties outside of Cape Town. As part of their Extreme Adventures program, members of the Abercrombie & Kent Residence Club have had the opportunity to cage dive with great white sharks and drive A-1 race cars. Just last week, Destination Cellars, a wine themed club, hosted a fundraising reception to help provide aid to the post-apartheid transformation of the South African wine industry, assisting in the development of skills for disadvantaged South African wine workers by providing internships within the US wine industry.
Broussard is planning a trip to South Africa early in June and will be providing more information about the new club in the near future. Check back soon for more updates regarding The Markers Club and the rest of the destination club industry.
