The Discovery Club Gives Free Weekend Membership To Lucky Golfer
By: Destination Club News Date: September 8, 2010
A Victoria day that included rain, clouds, and sunshine and 170 yards were all that stood between one lucky golfer winning a complimentary weekend membership with The Discovery Club back in June. A sponsor of the fourth hole at the Times Colonist Open Pro Am, The Discovery Club dared amateurs to test their skills on the hole. Those that were able to stick their shot on the green were entered into a drawing for a weekend stay at one of the club's vast collection of residences.
Less than a quarter of those that made their way to the tee box were able to successfully hit the green, but the Canadian based destination club states that "everyone had a laugh" and that they ultimately gave a couple of deserving golfers a weekend membership.
Unlike the vast majority of their counterparts in the destination club industry, The Discovery Club does not own the properties available to members. Instead, they continually add new "affiliate residences" around the globe by partnering with five-star hotels, resorts, and other luxury vacation options.
Just last month, the club added a former monastery to their portfolio in the hills of Tuscany. In tandem with the addition of the former medieval village were hotel options throughout Canada, ranging from units in the heart of the city to cabins well off the beaten path.
This diverse assortment lets members vacation how they want, when they want. For example, members can set sail on 70' yachts throughout British Columbia and Southeast Alaska or a camping experience at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort where guests stay in tents constructed of white canvas built on raised wooden platforms.
Other clubs have adopted a similar philosophy, not owning any of the club's properties, but nearly all are based overseas, giving The Discovery Club a dominant position in the US and Canadian markets.
