The Discovery Club Adds New Affiliate Residences
By: Destination Club News Date: May 14, 2010
One advantage of destination clubs structured like The Discovery Club is that new properties are continually being added to the club's portfolio no matter the stream of new membership sales. Unlike the majority of clubs who own the residences available to members, purchasing a new property for every six to ten new members that join, The Discovery Club is modeled so that none of the club residences are owned. Instead, the club adds "Affiliate Properties" for members to access, including five star hotels and resorts to safaris and cruises. Since the number of new properties is not tied to membership growth, the club can rapidly bring on new destinations for members.
With summer nearly upon us, The Discovery Club is doing just that with the addition of several new affiliate properties around the world. This month, the club has announced the addition of:
- Clayoquot Wilderness Resort - British Columbia
- West Coast Fishing Club - British Columbia
- Changri-La Guilin - China
- Marriott Resorts - Hawaii
Included in this list of resorts in Hawaii now available to Discovery Club members is the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa, Kauai Marriott Resort, Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa, and Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa.
Hawaii may grab many of the headlines, but these new additions to The Discovery Club property roster includes one of the most unique vacation experiences in the destination club sector at Clayoquot Wilderness Resort. Described by the club as glamorous camping, or "glamping," Clayoquot opens for the season in less than a week before closing in September. Guests have access to 20 tents, built on raised wooden platform and constructed of white canvas. Despite the old world charm, modern amenities include off-site generators that provide hot water to private showers and sinks and electricity for wireless internet access. Connected by cedar boardwalks, the resort describes their community as "Swiss Family Robinson style."
Earlier in the year, The Discovery Club introduced a "timeshare trade in" program that will give timeshare owners up to $25,000 for a trade in towards a membership with their club.
