Exclusive Resorts Member George Brett Discusses Membership
By: Destination Club News Date: April 11, 2011
The baseball season has just kicked off and the hopes of fans across the nation remain high for their hometown team (except for Cubs' fans). Kansas City Royals' icon and long-time Exclusive Resorts member George Brett recently visited Arizona for spring training and found a moment to sit down with the world's largest destination club to discuss how he became a member and how his family utilizes their membership.
"When I was playing with the Royals we had a vacation home in Palm Springs, and it was great, but after our oldest boy started school, we just couldn't get out there as much," Brett said. "Vacations are important to our family, so we began looking at other options. My brother's wife knew an Exclusive Resorts member who raved about her trips with the club, so we looked into it, and joined fairly quickly after that. We thought it would work well for our family, and it has. We've been happy members for six years now, and our kids have literally grown up seeing the world through the club."
Brett spoke favorably about vacations to Cabo, girls' trips for his wife Leslie, and retreats into Tuscany, all taken through Exclusive Resorts. In the near future, Brett and family will be heading off to Sea Island for a golf excursion and have plans to one day enjoy a Once In A Lifetime trip, with an African safari topping the list. "That's something I've always wanted to do, but probably would not get around to because of all the planning it would take. That's why I love Exclusive Resorts — I know that if we can find the time to do it, everything would be handled for us, and it would be easy. It's a great way to travel."
A 13 time All-Star, World Series Champion, and Hall of Fame member, Brett is without question the most notable baseball destination club member, but does have some former colleagues who have explored the industry. Steve Trachsel, a journeyman pitcher was attached to Portofino before the club went bankrupt. Davey Johnson played 13 seasons in the major leagues, collecting three Gold Gloves and four All-Star game nods. Following his playing career, he joined Ultimate Escapes and was named Manager for the US Men's Baseball team, where he led the club to a Bronze Medal in the 2008 Olympic Games. Ultimate Escapes wasn't as fortunate as they filed for bankruptcy in 2010. Jeff Conine, a two-time World Series Champion, serves on the management team of Abundant Life Destination Club. Former MLB Pitcher Dennis Rasmussen was appointed to the role of Vice President of Investor Relations at Equity Estates last year, bringing his experience in securities to the fast growing equity club.
Brett would also discuss one feature that nearly all destination club members share: the ability to vacation with family more. "One benefit we really enjoy, but didn't know about when we joined, is that we spend more time on vacation together now, and we go to places that just weren't on our radar before."
