Destination Cellars Keeps With The Golf Theme
By: Destination Club News Date: July 9, 2009
Watch out The Markers Club. Destination Cellars is quickly catching up to you on the golf medium.
Last month, Destination Cellars, a destination club focused on the luxury wine and food audience, announced that they had extended their partnership with PGA Tour Pro Parker McLachlin. That same day, the club announced that the LPGA's Meaghan Francella had signed as endorsement deal with them that would have the club's emblem as the primary logo on Francella's bag.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Will McKenzie, a Greenville, North Carolina native with nearly $4,000,000 in career earnings on the PGA Tour, and his family will be off to Tuscany next week. Earlier this year when Destination Cellars announced their sponsorship of McLachlin, the young pro and his family went to Montalcino, Italy.
"The best thing about experiencing Italy for the first time with a trip arranged by Destination Cellars is that they have genuine relationships with the vineyard owners, meaning that we were welcomed at the winery as if we were extended family," said McLachlin. "I'm looking forward to my next trip to Tuscany just as much as I'm looking forward to starting the '09 season next week. One thing I learned on my wine vacation is that appreciating truly great wine is very similar to playing a great game of golf, it takes patience and is best enjoyed one sip -- or one hole at a time."
The trip proved so successful that the club branded the tour as "The Parker Package." The week long excursion explores the history and culture of one of the most iconic wine areas in the world, from Rome to Florence. The trip is punctuated by a private tour, dinner wine tasting, cooking lessons, and accommodations at the Altesino estate in Montalcino, known for its production of Brunello di Montalcino. The morning is spent in the vineyards, learning more about the area and production from the director of the estate. From there, travelers visit the cellars and finally enjoy a wine tasting before the estate's private chef provides cooking lessons and lunch.
Is this the precursor for a new sponsorship with McKenzie, giving the young destination club a trinity of even younger up and coming golfers and an eventual McKenzie Membership? The McKenzie Migration? The McKen-zenith Expedition? Alright, we're stretching a bit.
Let's wait to find out how the youngster's trip goes and see if yet another golfer joins the Destination Cellars' ranks.
