Abercrombie & Kent Unveils Extreme Adventures
By: Destination Club News Date: October 3, 2008
Less than three weeks after the Abercrombie & Kent Residence Club launch, Abercrombie & Kent corporate announces the launch of 17 new worldwide journeys branded as "Extreme Adventures."
Beginning this fall and running through August of 2009, Extreme Adventures allows travelers to visit the Mount Everest basecamp, follow the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia through Jordan, track polar bears in Norway, and camp amongst the mountain gorillas of Uganda to name but a few.
Each journey is rated on a one to four difficulty scale to help travelers find the journey fit for their level of physical activity.
Mild - 1 These programs make no physical demands on the participant.
Moderate - 2 These programs take place in environments with potentially extreme temperatures, and may include light physical activity.
Demanding - 3 These programs take place in remote environments or require prolonged activity such as rafting, horseback riding and hiking. Participants should be in good physical condition and able to "rough" it for long periods.
Severe - 4 These programs take place in the most inhospitable places on earth and entail prolonged strenuous activity. Superior physical and mental condition is required to participate.

The premise of Abercrombie & Kent's Extreme Adventures can be summed up best in Abercrombie & Kent's Founder and CEO Geoffrey Kent's recent letter about the new offering.
I've taken many extraordinary journeys over the years, but none quite so brief -- or unique -- as the flight I took in an English Electric Lightning fighter jet.
I knew what to expect as I strapped myself in -- or thought I did. One of the fastest machines ever built. A climbing speed of 55,000 feet per minute. The only fighter plane fast enough to overtake a Concorde. Yet that flight, the sensation of having such incredible power at my back, was awe-inspiring, utterly shattering my expectations. I returned to earth somewhat sore and shaken, yet grateful for the experience. I had gone faster than I had imagined possible; in a small but distinct way, my view of both the world and myself was changed.
Experiences such as those are rare -- and that is why Abercrombie & Kent is introducing Extreme Adventures, 15 journeys expressly designed to challenge you as nothing else can, to leave you a different person from when you set out.
You may seek extremes at the South Pole, in the deserts of Egypt or on the African plains; you may even climb into the stratosphere in an English Electric Lightning. Wherever you go, you will be faced with conditions that alter your understanding of what is possible, of the obstacles you can overcome. And you will do so with the support of the most capable and experienced guides in the world.
I wish you a rewarding Extreme Adventure.
