Abercrombie & Kent Residence Club Extends Pricing Discount
By: Destination Club News Date: April 7, 2010
So it would not look like an April Fool's joke, we elected to wait to disclose the news that the Abercrombie & Kent Residence Club has elected to extend their current pricing, allowing new members the ability to purchase an equity membership for 40% off standard rates.
Introduced in December of last year and planning to be discontinued on April 1, the Abercrombie & Kent Residence Club has discounted each of their three membership plans by 40%, allowing savings of up to $198,000. These discounts will continue to be valid until June 30, 2010. Beginning July 1, costs for each plan will rise between $10,000 and $23,000, a 7% increase from the current reduced pricing.

- July 1 Price: $145,000
- 30-Night Annual Plan

"We were originally going to do two price increases this year, one in March and another in the Fall," Darin Gilson, the club's Senior Vice President of Sales & Business Development, told us. "We have instead decided to just do one increase on July 1 and wait for the second increase."
According to Gilson, the Abercrombie & Kent Residence Club has already sold more new memberships in the first quarter of 2010 than all of 2009, leading the club to be "cautiously optimistic." Anecdotally, other leading destination clubs have told us the same as sales across the industry continue to improve from a tumultuous 2009. One destination club executive recently told us that sales "have been a trickle rather than a flood" but that there had been a marked improvement from last year.
The Abercrombie & Kent Residence Club has also offered a two year, annual dues only membership option that they believe will ultimately lead to full equity memberships prior to the pending price increase.
