The non-equity destination club Havens was "born from the desire to create a highly flexible alternative to the constraints of luxury real estate ownership and the disadvantages of high-end travel. The private club structure is designed to overcome the obvious limitations of timeshare and fractional arrangements, as well as the high costs - not only in direct outlays, but also in terms of time and attention - of maintaining a second home."

The Havens Club continually compared themselves to other leading destination clubs, making mention that they were not satisfied with other club's offerings as the genesis of Havens and that larger clubs were forced to "compromise on their promises of anytime, anywhere travel and personal service due to their swelling membership."

This bravado helped grow the club during its initial surge in the destination club sector, but the club soon came upon hard times. With closure all but assured, Havens was partially absorbed by the similarly branded BelleHavens, one of the destination club industry's leading equity based clubs.
