While the exact difference between timeshares, private residence clubs, destination clubs, fractional ownership, and other forms of shared ownership may sometimes be blurry, there are some commonly accepted differences.
Timeshares are typically a one week or two week ownership interest of one specific property, for a specific set of dates each year. While there are exchange options allowing an owner to stay in different locations, different times, or even convert their usage time to hotel points or other rewards benefits, most timeshare owners enjoy most of their usage during their set week, at their set location.
