As opposed to the advanced reservations that are traditionally booked far in advance, space available reservations are made just prior to departure. Each destination club defines this differently, but most clubs identify space available reservations as those made less than 90 days prior to the trip.

Many clubs have instituted a cancellation policy that penalizes members for cancelling trips shortly before the actual trip dates to maximize the number of space available reservations available to their members.
