Demeure Club
Introduced late in 2009 as "the next-generation destination club," Demeure blends the destination club experience with a home exchange format where the property contributed by a member is used to determine its relative value and how it is exchanged with other members. "We’ve built on the foundation started by other destination clubs and have taken a great concept to the next level, making it much different, and much better."
Members are able to define when their property is available to other members and receive access to other member's residences and/or income for the time used by other members. When a property is used by another member, the contributing member receives a credit equal to roughly 50% of the rental value and a check equal to roughly 25% of the rental value.
If a potential member does not have or does not wish to contribute a vacation property to the club's portfolio, they can still join by paying an upfront fee and annual dues, receiving a smaller discount on stays than members who do contribute their own residences.
In addition, Demeure has a distinct "community" mentality for members. "Our members are a diverse group, from seasoned travelers to those just beginning to explore the world. If you want to understand Demeure, just imagine the power of Facebook baked into a destination network: a community of like-minded travelers letting one another know about the great culinary haunts, hidden beaches and out-of-the-way cultural finds. The best places to see the sunset. That one vegetable stand whose produce is second to none. These are the kinds of honest recommendations and invaluable insights you get only from others who have experienced a place first-hand. At Demeure, we give this information exchange among our members top priority, and it gets refreshed, reviewed and supplemented constantly."
While introduced in 2009, one of the worst years in the history of the destination club sector with the downturn in the financial and real estate markets, Demeure had been in the works for roughly three years before formally launching in August of 2010.
Just a month after their launch, Ultimate Escapes, the world's second largest destination club, filed for bankruptcy. Looking to capitalize on the opportunity, Demeure was selected the winning bidder for the club's assets, purchasing a portion of the Ultimate Escapes properties and leasing dozens more for members to access, immediately establishing the Demeure name in the destination club industry.
