Rather than owning a centralized real estate portfolio available to members, Arcarnus Retreats entered into partnerships with luxury resorts and hotels and passed savings off to members.

In addition, property owners could also contribute their home to the Arcarnus Retreats portfolio and exchange weeks of travel at other property owner's homes.

With this type of real estate structure, the property list available to members was constantly evolving as new properties were added while existing properties were removed.

This business model has been routinely debated as to if it does or does not meet the rather vague definition of a destination club.
